The Devourer’s Schemes

We have a devourer that is against us human beings, someone who wants nothing but our demise. In Malachi 3:8-11, we read that God’s people rob God of His money and therefore, they end up with the devourer devouring even their little money that they have. In this note, we want to look at the devourer’s schemes.

As for the devourer, he doesn’t care whether you pay your tithes and offerings, all he wants is to make sure you lose your joy. Because his only way to ‘get’ you is when God removes His covering from you, he plants devices in your mind so you stop giving God His due. In Joel 2, the devourer comes in(-to our lives) when we turn our backs to the Lord. In other words, the devourer comes when we disobey God’s commands.

The devourer is always seeking to devour because he is a destroyer and a waster (Isaiah 54:16). That’s all he does and probably, that’s what he’s meant for. Like a roaring lion, he goes about seeking whoever he can to devour. The only thing that prevents or hinders him from destroying is the hedge God makes around us, because we give our offerings and tithes.

The devourer has his way of consuming our money or monies, making sure everything is squandered. When you pay your tithes, God takes care of all your other expenses such that when you need something, He is able to send someone or touch somebody’s heart to give you what you’re looking for. When you don’t pay your tithe, all hell breaks loose in your life. It would be better if you were to be dead than to live a life of misery and disappointments.

The devourer doesn’t come as moth, or rat, or canker to eat your money notes, though the Bible speaks of something like that. No, it doesn’t happen like that. One way – I’ve seen – the devourer devouring our money is through unchecked expenses. It’s almost automatic, you don’t make unnecessary expenses when you pay your tithes but the day you stop paying, you become so careless about money.

They say money flies – because of the way it leaves you – but I think it has legs. Your money can walk away from you in a twinkle of an eye when you refuse to give God His due(s). Here in Africa or elsewhere, you can have few cash but it will be enough to take care of all your needs. When you do the math, it just doesn’t add up because God has blessed you. It’s as if your money has been multiplied, which is normal if you know your scriptures (Ezekiel 36:11).

On the other hand, you can have so much money but it is never sufficient because you neglect your duty- to give alms and tithes and offerings to people. This happens to you because it’s like – you are – a curse. You find that so many things detract your monies and if you have revenues, you make more losses than profits. It’s a curse to not pay your dues.

The devourer is very smart in his schemes; I am not giving him credit but that’s who he is- he is cunning. If you are going through financial troubles, I pray that God rebuke the devourer for your sake, so that smiles may come your way. If you are struggling with giving God His due, I pray that God make a way in your life and breakthrough for you, so you can give with joy. This is my prayer for you, God bless you.

NB: I don’t pay tithe so I don’t have money, but I pray all these change when I get a job.

  1. I believe it is also important we educate Christians on how God wants us to handle the tool of money and other spiritual principles in our lives. I do not think most people realize that the way they handle money is a symptom of their spiritual condition of the heart. God has a plan that is for sure written in His Word. Thank you for sharing and may you be blessed my friend.
